Existing campaigns such as Nike’s just do it campaign which has revolutionised sports and fashion on a global scale “It also suggested something more than its literal meaning, allowing people to interpret it as they wished”(Terms, 2015) As well as Nike there was the “This girl can” campaign which promoted equality and motivation for women to do more sport. “This Girl Can is a celebration of active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it,” (This girl can, no date).
All of these campaigns focus on sports and fitness. Though these adverts have a positive effect on its target audience, what about the other areas other than sport; education, careers or dreams. This is what I aim to address.
My project concept is motivation; I want to consider the ideas of encouragement, inspiration, that feeling when you’re in the zone, when nothing can stop you. Limitless energy. I believe that words of wisdom and encouragement can change a person’s entire attitude and perspective on life. This is a very close subject to me because I have been dealing with my own struggles and problems that I thought couldn’t escape but when surrounded by the right people and exposed to positive energy I have been able to overcome and excel.
Watching Ted Talks is a good source to view videos that relate to the theme of motivation, from case studies to real personal experiences about motivation. An example comes from Tim Ferriss and his talk called “ Smash fear, Learn anything” (Ferriss 2009).
Primary research may consist of questionnaires from unstructured conversations with people about what who or what motivates them; I could then translate these visually, photography, sketches and find books or articles about people who impacted the world.
