Book Binding workshop

Today we had a short workshop on bookbinding, lasted around an hour but we got a lot done and learned how to book bind. The first technique we learned was to saddle stitch. Saddle stitching is one of the easiest and most common way to bind a book. Seeing as i have never done saddle stitching before this was a new experience and very useful because one of my outcomes is a zine, so i might as well know how to manually bind a book without spending any money!. I guess the hardest thing about it all is trying to get the thread into the needle, that was such a pain, especially when you feed it through the holes we made and the thread magically falls out making it ten times harder to feed back through.

The other technique we did was Japanese binding but i was familiar with this technique because i previously researched how to do it a few months ago for the zine making project. I like this book binding technique because its different and unique, you don't see that everyday but i realised that if i wanted to make a booklet that has images that bleed through the spine then saddle stitching is the way to go. But if the book doesn't have things that bleed through the spine you can still you saddle stitching but Japanese binding could work out too.
