Zine

A zine is usually a non – commercial, non professional publication, kind of like a magazine but with a twist. The main difference between a magazine and a zine is that zines are not out there to make a profit but, rather, to add other, often unheard voices into the mix. Zines are usually made out of interest and passion and are often self-published by the writer/artist/creator. Typically zines are made using collage techniques and are then photocopied since these are means available to almost everyone.
What I like best about zines is that they provide a voice for all; outside of the mainstream, of alternative, from the underground, the margins of society. Our tutor explained to us that zines were almost like personal small poster like leaflets that contain information about a certain subject or to promote something like a concert or a gathering, it was how they communicated and advertised and got word around about what they were trying to promote.

So for my zine i wanted to initially do one on anime but I found myself having bit of a dilemma thinking of what i could include in the zine about anime, enough to fill up each page. So i switched my idea to retro movie screenings in a cinema. I like the idea of watching old movies in contemporary society because you get the feel of the original ideas that stemmed into film that we see today.

FOLDING ZINES ARE  A PAIN but the look very good in the end and its all worth it.
